The drilling machine through our vegetable garden

AND THEN THERE WAS WATER

Water is most probably the most important substance we humans require to live, second to oxygen.  At Resthill we realised this thoroughly during August and September 2024.  Suddenly there was no water from our boreholes.  We have 32 residents who require a daily shower, drinking water, water to wash hands, dishes, laundry, house cleaning, and the list goes on.

We immediately jumped on the Internet and got hold of a water delivery service, and during this time we had thousands of litres of water delivered to Resthill to fill up our JoJo tanks.  We tried to cut down on every little bit of water we could but our circumstances did not allow for that too much.

Our gardens dried up and we only watered the lawns and fruit trees with the grey water system.  These water deliveries cost us a fortune and with all heads together, management decided to try for another borehole at a completely different location.

Back to the Internet to find contractors for the borehole.  A number of them attended Resthill and it was very exciting to see them use different tools to discover where the borehole should be.  In the end, all of them were directed to more or less the same spot.  We decided on Lucky from Optima Africa Boreholes because he was thorough in his observations, pretty perfect with his quote and also offered to flush one of the old boreholes at a very decent price.

Everyone was very excited on Monday when the huge monster of a machine arrived at Resthill and manoeuvred itself through our vegetable garden to get to the right place to throw out its anchors and start eating its way through sand, white sand, yellow sand, red sand, grey and brown sand.  Some of our residents could not contain their curiosity and moved closer amidst the ghastly noise of the huge machinery.

And then we struck!  Suddenly the cloud of dust coming from the drilling point changed to slush, and then the water just sprayed out and everyone cheered!  This was a reason for jubilation because when you drill you always have this fear in the back of your mind that you might drill and drill, deeper and deeper and not find water and the only thing down that hole is a lot of money.  Well, we are happy that this was not the case and water was found.  After going in a little deeper, a very strong burst was reached and everybody was satisfied that Resthill would be in the water for a long time coming.
